Every bespoke suit begins with its purpose. It may be for everyday city dressing, travel, evenings or more formal occasions. The cut, cloth and details are selected around how you wear it and how it fits into your wardrobe.
Atelier St James creates bespoke suits in London, individually cut and made for each client. We begin with a private consultation to understand where you will wear the suit, the style you want and how it should fit within your wardrobe. Your measurements are used to create an individual pattern, followed by fittings to refine the fit, balance and proportions. The result is a bespoke suit made specifically for you.

Every bespoke suit commission begins by understanding the purpose of the garment. Where will you wear it? How often? What do you already own, and what is missing?
Those questions affect the decisions that follow. A suit worn throughout the week has different demands from one intended for evenings, travel or more formal occasions. Climate, movement and the way the suit works with the wider wardrobe can influence the choices too.
The first consultation gives the commission a clear direction before the cloth is cut and the pattern is developed.

Choosing Cloth That Works for You
Cloth can change the entire character of a suit. A lighter fabric may suit warmer months or frequent travel. Something with more weight can create a different line and feel.
We consider how often the suit will be worn, the season and the setting. Colour and texture come into the conversation too. Once the cloth is chosen, we look at the details that belong with it, from lapels and pockets to lining and finishing choices.
The aim is not to add every available option. It is to make choices that work together.

CUT AND PROPORTION: WHERE THE SUIT TAKES SHAPE

Measurements provide the facts. The cut determines what happens with them.
The cut considers the balance of the whole garment. The shoulder, jacket length, waist and trouser line need to work together rather than as separate details.
For a fully individual commission, a personal pattern is developed for the wearer. That starting point can then be refined as the suit moves through its fittings. The aim is to establish proportions that feel natural to the wearer and work within the wider wardrobe.

FITTINGS: SEEING THE SUIT ON THE BODY
Fittings That Refine the Suit Around You
A suit changes once it is worn. This is why fittings matter.
At each appointment, we look at how the jacket sits, how the trousers fall and how the suit moves with you. Adjustments can then be made as the garment develops.
Fittings are not simply about checking measurements. They allow us to assess the suit on the body and refine its proportion, comfort and balance as the garment develops.
